So...crank the wheel to the left, throw it in reverse and back up the 6 inches or so it’ll take to get back on pavement.

Most likely it was due to a combination of steering inputs, gear selections, and throttle input... Or magic.

The drive way must have moved on you, they’re prone to that since they are sitting on tectonic plates and all.

I see cars parked like this all the time, but with the very outside edge on the curb and the rest of the tire hanging out into space. It’s amazing how stiff modern tires are, because there’ll be less than an inch on the curb itself and enough overhang to fit your entire hand under it. Uncomfortable to look at.
